Black Tech Mecca Ecosystem Report
Black Tech Mecca was a pioneering think tank dedicated to empowering the Black tech community in Chicago and beyond through data-driven insights and actionable strategies. When they discovered my work online, they approached me to design the 2017 Black Tech Ecosystems (BTE) report, their inaugural research study that explored the elements driving success in Black tech ecosystems while comparing cities globally.
The report represented a collaborative effort among key stakeholders, including BTM’s leadership and staff, the State of the Black Tech Ecosystem (SBTE) advisory board, and researchers from the Nathalie P. Voorhees Center for Neighborhood and Community Improvement at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Together, their research laid the foundation for a rich, data-driven narrative, and it was my responsibility to bring their findings to life through compelling visual storytelling.
My design approach focused on making complex data approachable, ensuring clarity for diverse audiences while reflecting the innovative spirit of Black Tech Mecca. The final report combined dynamic infographics, cohesive layouts, and bold typography to create a polished, engaging piece that celebrated the impact of Black tech professionals and provided actionable insights for fostering growth in tech communities worldwide.
